| I'm not planning an additional 5.17 release at this time
| (although things could change).
| I'll make a general announcement about 5.17.1 tomorrow.

| Some problems with 5.17.1 were reported. None of these seem
| serious enough to require fixing on the release branch.
| There are hundreds of open bug reports; I don't see that the
| following are any more important than any of the others.
|
| (1) limit(1/x, x, 0) => infinity: intended result, won't change
| (2) erf sometimes returns complex result (with small imaginary
| part) for real float argument: not serious
| (3) problem loading affine package: situation unchanged from
| last release (couldn't load affine due to a different problem)
| (4) Problem running 5.17.1 on one user's Windows system:
| problem only for that one user to the best of my knowledge
| (5) asksign nuttiness in limit(a*x, x, 0): annoying, not incorrect
|
| Hope I didn't leave out anything too important.
|

| All right! I did not complain, but I had to report that
| in any of my windows systems (WNT4&SP6a, WXPP&SP3, WVHB&SP1
| or WVB&SP1) I had no problems with Maxima -that is
| from 5.9.0 (10/2/2003) up to 5.16.3, included- until 5.17.0,
| 5.17.1, which, surprisingly enough, were hanged up under
| WXPH&SP3, where they were tested.
|
| Therefore, I tested 5.17.1 again in WXPP&SP3, and there:
|
| "No unexpected errors were found."
|
| I do not dare to attempt any suggestion.
|

| Mockmma now works with wxMaxima, and evaluates a growing
| number of Mathematica commands by translating to Maxima,
| evaluating with Maxima, and translating back. I think it may
| be realistic to include some version of this in the August
| release of Maxima.

| To install Mockmma and run under wxMaxima: Checkout
| trunk/Mockmma from the Mockmma sourceforge project into the
| directory share\mockmma under the Maxima source tree; type
| load("mockmma/init2.lisp"); and type :lisp (tl).
| You should see the prompt "In[1] :=".

| The following commands work properly:
| 2+3, 3^7, Sqrt[4], Integrate[Sin[z]*z,z], IntegerQ[2],
| PrimeQ[31], 10!, y=5, y^2, Expand[(1+x)^5], Factor[x^2+2x+1],
